FOR SIX YEARS I DIDN'T TALK about what happened.

Now I've written the whole story, complete and honest. It's a mix of love and pain. A very specific kind of love, which is the affection a woman feels for her as-yet unborn child. And a very specific pain, the result of losing a child in the womb.

Karin Malhotra* arrives in Seattle with lots of dreams for "the perfect life." A job as a newspaper reporter in the heart of a gleaming city, at 28, she feels ready for anything.
